Wood Creek Academy is a troubled teen boarding school for boys located in beautiful, rural, Western Montana. Our facility is approximately 12 miles outside of the town of Thompson Falls, a small community located on the Clark Fork River. The 60-acre ranch adjoins National Forest land on three sides. The U.S. Forest Service permits us access and use of the Kootenai and Lolo National Forests. Our self-sustaining off-grid facility consists of a bunkhouse, main house, classroom and a multi-purpose building. We use this quiet, pristine setting to help young men, reflect and reprioritize their lives. Through our consistent schedule and positive atmosphere, we are able to focus on individual progress. Our daily routine includes focused year-round school, wholesome food, hard work, evening discussions as well as group and individual counseling. On average our residents are able to complete this program in 10–12 months. In order to give each of our residents the attention they deserve, we limit our program to a maximum of 15 residents.
Wood Creek Academy is NOT a typical treatment center or traditional therapeutic school. Other therapeutic boarding schools for boys tend to be short term and focus on detoxification or mental disorders. Wood Creek Academy utilizes an LAC (Licensed Addiction Counselor) and a LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) and a mentorship component to assist residents in achieving their personal goals and potential.
Wood Creek Academy is NOT a boot camp. We approach our Residents as individuals with kindness and caring and take a holistic approach to helping them improve their own lives. We help provide needed direction and purpose through dedication and consistency.
We offer effective programs for troubled youth facing a wide range of issues. Our unique troubled youth program is designed to help boys struggling with one or more of the following problems in their lives:
- Drug Use
- Alcohol Use
- Low Self-Esteem
- Lack of Motivation
- Poor Academic Performance
- Manipulative Behavior
In addition to working with your teen, we also work together with your family. Family participation is vital to your boy’s success. Our Teen Family Program is set up so your family can participate in groups and attend other various programs with your teen. This is a safe environment for your family to honestly deal with problems you have with your teenager.
Daily group participation will give struggling teens the opportunity to express their beliefs, concerns, and goals. This process will challenge negative beliefs and logic and allow a venue for discussing barriers students may be experiencing in successful decision-making. By listening to positive and constructive feedback from peers and staff, teens learn a new self-awareness, which allows them to identify negative patterns and attitudes. The topics covered in these discussions will lay a foundation of new skills including effective communication, listening, identifying and coping with emotions, trust building, and planning a transition back into their home and society.
We utilize local agencies for individual therapy/counseling. Counseling provides an additional opportunity to address unresolved mental and emotional issues that could be disrupting the healing and learning process. We offer face-to-face or phone conference sessions with the family.
